Moffitt Cancer Center Inpatient Beds Expansion

Tampa, Florida

The Inpatient Beds Expansion was a multi-phased renovation of existing administrative space on the third floor of Moffitt Cancer Center’s Magnolia campus. The renovation provided a new 12-bed, 15,000 square foot inpatient bed unit with an adjoining 8-bay, outpatient observation unit. Combined, these units expand the scope of bone marrow and apheresis services provided within the hospital.

The design team, led by Daniel Roark, was tasked with developing a patient-centred environment that considered the needs of autoimmune compromised patients. To that end, all patient rooms are designed to serve as protective environments. Working within the confines of the existing hospital, artificial skylights were added in the corridors and patient lounge spaces to provide “natural” light to help the patients maintain a circadian rhythm.

LDCi worked with engineer Newcomb & Boyd, and General contractor Barr & Barr to develop the project. Close collaboration between LDCi, Moffitt, Newcomb & Boyd & Barr & Barr was necessary for delivering a patient-centred environment.
