Healthcare Architecture

Our healthcare practice knowledge differentiates us as experts in the field contributing to design innovations. Healthcare architecture is our core business, serving as trusted advisors to healthcare systems and businesses since 2004. Over the last 5 years we have completed $30 million in AHCA (Agency for Healthcare Administration/ State of Florida) design and construction projects. Projects ranging from $75,000 to over $40 million in construction. Our body of work includes, inpatient sleeping, rehabilitation and treatment settings, ambulatory clinics, imaging, oncology, operating rooms, EP and Cath Labs, laboratories, SPD, infrastructure, kitchens, retail dining, in complex phased projects settings. Our goal is to work to improve healthcare environments in support of better outcomes for patients and healthcare practitioners. Our commitment is paramount, and our lead principal is a board-certified healthcare specialist by The American College of Healthcare Architects, which requires its Certificate Holders to work towards the improvement of healthcare architecture on behalf of the public, to practice in an ethical manner, to maintain high standards of specialized continuing education, and to add to the body of knowledge. Our staff of registered professionals are also trained in infection control best practices and documentation.

Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities

Our body of work includes, inpatient and ambulatory treatment and surgical settings, ranging from oncology, infectious diseases, 23-hour observation units, apheresis, dialysis, endoscopic, infusion, GI and hyperbaric.

Inpatient and Outpatient Facilities

These include medical surgical patient room additions and renovations, primary care, specialty clinics, ambulatory surgical (ASC) and complex additions to existing structures that must operate 24/7. For that reason, design needs to embrace new technology that provides speed to market, efficiency, resilience, maintenance and can meet the space constraints.

Imaging Equipment Replacements

We have extensive experience in imaging and radiation oncology. From the regulatory to the FGI code. The key is understanding room use, acuity of the patient, procedures performed and level of anesthesia to arrive at the proper (FGI) room classification. Then coordinating and integration of the vast modality of equipment, from X-Ray to CT, Nuclear Cameras, PET, Linac’ and hybrid. We have work over the years and have extensive experience with manufacturers such as GE, Varian, Siemens, Steris, Zero Gravity and many others. Although design is driven technically from the modality, this area is constantly in transition.

Interior Design

Healthcare Interior Design addresses special factors that encompass not only the look and feel of the space, but also its effects on sensory and patient experience. Our architects also licensed interior designers and board certified by the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID). This allows the facility to have a team well versed and knowledgeable in healthcare interior design.

Space Planning

Our team’s background in programming space planning of interior spaces provides solutions that not only need to address the client needs but can be implemented in phases to allow for the continued occupancy in healthcare settings. Our approach is to listen and provide options and solutions in a clear and graphic manner that will allow for informed decisions to move forward with the project design development.

Life Safety Audits for Joint Commission Surveys

Life Safety plans are a very important part of healthcare facilities. These plans need to contain information required for (CMMS) Medicare and (TJC) Joint Commission accreditation. Our expertise and best practice in current knowledge to address NFPA-101 requirements is paramount to the facility success during accreditation surveys. Although there are no set standards nationwide, architects tend to include either too much or too little information. In either case, causing unnecessary questions or concerns from surveyors. Key is understanding the occupancy issues, separations, and construction types. To provide for what is required in these plans is essential. There is a difference between Life Safety, Fire Safety and Facility Management Systems. What a Joint Commission surveyor is looking for is not necessarily what a plan reviewer or building department is necessarily looking for in plans. Our approach is determining with the client how these plans are to be used and how they are to be maintained. We focus on clarity of drawings, with graphics that are easy to read. We provide these services to private and not for profit hospitals, US Naval and VA facilities hospitals nationally and worldwide.

Central Energy Plans

In addition to infrastructure projects such as Air Handler replacements and electrical ATS, we team with Design Builders and engineers to design CEP’s. BIM modeling and coordination of engineering disciplines is key in this practice. We are in the process of completing a new CEP for Moffitt Cancer Center as well and the expansion of the existing plan.

Laboratories

In addition to USP 797 & USP 800 pharmacy experience, recent project includes Advance Diagnostic Laboratories for Moffitt Cancer Center, Cell Therapies and Tissue Culture facilities. We team up with experts in wet, dry laboratory planners to provide our clients with expertise in this area.
